A Modern Day Witch

What is a modern day witch? Do they cast spells or incantations? Do they wear black and have cats? Well, yes, some, but not the way you remember.

In 1693, the Salem Witch trials ended with the prosecution of people accused of witchcraft. Over 30,000 years ago, sailors, farmers and others use the moon, stars and constellations to predict weather patterns along with direction and even dates and time. Over 60,000, plants and herbs were used to medicinal purposes and holistic health. Fast forward to today, 2021, witchcraft is a symbol of divine femininity, love, equally and self-respect. It is also living with the belief in the universe and helping others without personal gain.

See a difference here? I do.

For years, regular people used the same skies and plants to guide them through life but as soon as the invention of other things, it's like it never happened and anyone who continued it was now a witch. Some were prosecuted and burned at the stake, or in the time of the Salem Witch trials, hanged. While you won't be burned or hanged now, today someone who practices witchcraft is considered weird or non-religious by most but, deep into the world of modern day witches, there is love, wealth, health, compassion, empowerment, happiness and so much more.

Modern day witches still utilize what our ancestors did such as the moon, stars and energies but casting a spell, like you read in books as a child, isn't what witchcraft is all about. Get the dark, horror stories out of your mind. The idea that all witches have black hair, wear pointy hats (though they are fun for pictures), have black cats (I only have dogs) and are evil out of your mind, too. That is so 1693 to think that way.

Modern day witches, here in 2021, are all about equality, love, self-love, living your true authentic self and femininity. I mean yes, we still cast spells but they focus on healing, love and growth. Growing herbs in our garden to cook with that allow us to focus on self-care and health. We buy a lot of crystals to heal past traumas and aid in the anxieties and stresses or today's world. We dress in all black as a sign of protection from any negativity that may come our way. Some of us own black cats but the rest of us have dogs, fish or no animals at all. But, we are not the Sanderson Sisters nor do we give out poisonous apples.

A lot of modern witches, like myself, focus on healing traumas and mental health. Healing is a huge part of my practice and utilizing meditation, herbs, crystals and other witchcraft has helped me become a better version of myself for myself and the ones I love. There are green witches, kitchen witches, sea witches, traditional witch, baby witches, seasoned which and yes, Christian witches.

The idea of a practicing witch has come a long way and in the way of todays world, everyone has a little bit of magic inside of them. Do not be afraid to find yours.
