October is my absolute favorite month out of the year. It's my husband and I's anniversaries, dating and marriage, it's the best weather for fall and the vibe is the most with pumpkin patches, decor, costumes, trick-or-treat, apple picking and more.

We started decorating at the end of August and man did the house look amazing! By the end of September we transformed the front yard into a giant graveyard packed with hand-made tombstones and lots of excitement for the neighborhood. But, the excitement, for us, didn't last as long as I had hoped.

This October the vibe was kinda killed. Sept 26th, my husband tested positive for covid and within a week, so did I. For the first three weeks of October, we were both down for the count. I couldn't go to work, leave the house, see anyone (for that first week I couldn't even see my husband) and eventually, with the shortness of breath, couldn't leave the couch. They tell you about all the symptoms, but not what it does to your mental health.
After realizing my October festivities were non-existent for this year, I became depressed and filled with so much anxiety. I cut everyone off from checking on me, stopped posting on social media and fell into a horrible mindset.
After day sixteen, when I was able to get off the couch, I decided to take down all our Halloween/Fall decor from inside the house. I was done looking at it and my mental health around what covid took away, really drained me. The vibe was gone, the interest was gone, the moment was gone. I left the outside decor up for the neighborhood to continue to enjoy until Halloween, though.

So what did that mean for the rest of the month? Not much, though we were able to go to one dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary and finally got our kitchen floors completed. October 31st we passed out candy and had that one exciting Halloween moment of the month. We have never handed out candy, we always went trick-or-treating with friends and family, so this year, in our new home, I knew we were passing out candy. Thankfully, we had around forty trick-or-treaters who completely made my night.
That last week of the month shined through a little brighter but getting back into old habits such as walking, working out, work, took some time. I am still struggling with a little bit of shortness of breath but I am really grateful we are both still here, didn't have to go to the hospital and honestly, now, I don't have to live in fear of getting the virus and what will happen.
I will never take for granted that both my husband and I are healthy and got through this. Together. Halloween may not have been what I hoped for this year but I am grateful we gave light and happiness to those who enjoyed the front yard decor.
But don't worry, my witchiness doesn't end with Halloween. Though I absolutely love the holidays and may or may not already have my Christmas tree up, there are still more witchy things ahead.
